2013 Ford CMAX Energi Plugin Hybrid

Hybrids are a big money saver and have been deemed the car of the future. With the huge success of the Hybrid Toyota Prius giving the driver the best fuel savings and reliability they are looking for in a car, it was time for Ford to put their money where their mouth was.  Their version of the Prius is the Ford CMAX Energi. The Prius has been a popular seller for those who want an energy efficient car, and the CMAX is able to hold its own against the Prius or any other hybrid car on the market.

The Ford CMAX was already on sale in European countries with the option of gasoline engines or diesel. The American CMAX is associated purely with hybrids. The two models offered in the US are the plugin hybrid and the Hybrid. Both models have the ability to produce 188 hp, which is desirable for those looking for a strong engine. The horsepower is important with a vehicle that runs only on electricity, because some are concerned that the hybrid does not have the same power as a gasoline-powered car.

The battery pack in the plugin hybrid is larger than the one in the Hybrid meaning that while the extended driving range is great, buyers will have to pay an extra seven grand for the larger battery pack, which will also greatly lessen trunk space. It takes to 2.5 hours with a 240V charger and 7 hours with 120V charger to charge the Energi CMAX Energi fully. Full capacity for gas is around 14 gallons for both models.

The power in the CMAX is transferred to a Ford specialized CVT transmission and delivered to its front wheels. The battery pack being larger in the plugin will allow the model to travel twenty miles longer on EV mode. With both models, the 2.0-liter engine will produce 141 hp and with the on-board electric motor, the total horsepower will reach 188 hp. The rated fuel consumption is 100 mpg on the plugin but on the Hybrid, it gets 44 in the city and 41 on the highway.
